Key Responsibilities / Activities
•Monitor and report on IT Service performance and throughput and upon the supporting (component) infrastructure elements
•Conduct analysis and tuning exercises to ensure maximum practical efficiency of the utilisation of existing resources
•Conduct analysis and tuning exercises to ensure maximum availability of production system
•Where appropriate, liaise with service providers to ensure that capacity that they manage on our behalf is included in our capacity plans and to provide assurance that these service providers can provide required resources to support demand forecasts.
•Understand the current demands being made for IT resources and produce forecasts for future demands (highlighting possible shortfalls or surpluses in IT Service capacity)
•Influence the demand for IT resources (possibly in conjunction with IT Financial Management)
•Produce the IT Capacity Plan which, if followed, will enable successful provisioning of the required quality of service as required by, and agreed with, the business
•Produce the IT Availability Plan which, if followed, will enable successful provisioning of the required quality of service as required by, and agreed with, the business
•Balance cost against Capacity. It is essential to ensure that processing Capacity that is purchased is not only cost justifiable (in terms of business need), but also the need to make the most efficient use of those resources
•Balance supply against demand
•Ensure highest level of systems / application availability
•Obtain/extract – from the business – timely forward plans/projections for business growth and new (and/or modified) initiatives so that these can be included in scope for all Capacity forecasting and planning activities
•Obtain/extract – from within IT - timely forward plans/projections for infrastructure initiatives, and works-in-progress, so that these can be included in scope for all Capacity/ Availability forecasting and planning activities
•Develop and maintain effective working relationships with, in particular, entry points in to the business and colleagues within the IT infrastructure teams
•Proactively monitor, manage and report on Capacity and Availability risks and issues
Represent Capacity and Availability concerns and issues within other Salary is £30k - £35k plus package
•IT and Business areas to ensure that all processes with implications for Capacity/ Demand/ Availability management are in-scope.
Experience / Qualifications Requirements
Essential
•ITIL Practitioner Certified (Capacity and Availability Management)
•Degree level education
•Significant vocational experience (backed up by formal training)
•Demonstrated 5+ years previous experience in fields of Capacity and Availability management
•Previous experience with Solaris and ORACLE technologies and online real-time high volume financial transaction application systems
Desirable
•ITSM Manager Service Support / Service Delivery
•Prince2 Foundation
•Incident / Problem management experience
•Service Level and Service Continuity management/consultancy/specialization experience
•Analysis and Decision Making Certification Professional.
•Documentation / process writing skills
