| Application Support Specialist |
Our client is searching for an Application Support Specialist to be responsible for taking new applications developed by the software development team and managing the deployment of such into the various systems environments. Post testing and installation, this role is then responsible for ongoing 2nd level support, monitoring, and debugging, and escalation and management of issues through to 3rd level support and 3rd party vendors as required.
Accountabilities
Deployment Coordination
Assess new application packages received from software development to check they are complete, have the appropriate documentation and instructions, and complete code sets to ensure that they are suitable for deployment to any environment
Communicate and Coordinate (but not execute) the deployment schedules of application packages onto company systems to make them available for the end user
Monitoring & Troubleshooting
Monitor application health to ensure that installed applications continue to operate as required
Identify and react to problems with applications, undertaking root cause analysis and debugging to resolve issues where possible
For more serious problems, work with software development team and 3rd party vendors to determine fixes or develop patches to resolve application issues
Knowledge/Skills/Experience
• Role requires 3 years’ experience in the field of application development, preferably within a high volume transaction environment
• System knowledge of Windows 2003, IIS, MS-SQL Server, and Linux/UNIX is essential
• A background in system integration, configuration and maintenance is highly preferable
• A background in change/release management highly preferable
• Good programming skills in a combination of .Net, C#, C++, PHP, J2EE, and shell scripting (Unix/Linux) is preferable
• System knowledge of Apache, MySQL, Oracle is preferable
• The role holder must have an analytical, trouble-shooting mindset, with a problem-solving personality i.e. someone who sees challenges in problems, who is stubborn enough to go that extra mile to get the information it takes to understand a problem, even when it lies outside of the area covered by their current knowledge.
Salary is £40k
