| Portal Software Architect - Gibraltar |
Our client is searching for a Portal Software Architect to join the existing Portal team. In this role you will be responsible for establishing and maintaining systems and associated work processes in J2EE environment to provide an industry leading web based network
The key responsibilities will be as follows
• Manage on all aspects of Java-based design (J2EE Architecture, application design, tooling, best practices, standards, etc.)
• Create processes and techniques that will improve performance and maintainability of applications.
• Ensure projects are aligned with the IT Strategy and compliant with technical standards.
• Communicate the use of standards and how the vision of a services-oriented architecture can be realized.
• Provide consultation and leadership to multiple project teams.
• Identify opportunities based on technical knowledge and industry trends.
• Serve as the technical application design authority on multiple projects.
• Create macro design (high-level design).
• Facilitate initial meeting with development lead to agree on process for design.
• Establish regular meetings to review technical designs and provide mentoring and guidance.
• Mentor development teams on object-oriented analysis and design of distributed, web-based architectures.
• Work with our software vendors to understand and leverage existing product capabilities and shape direction of the product to best benefit the company needs.
• Meet new vendors to increase awareness of technology trends and assess the potential benefits
• Perform technical assessments for a range of circumstances: application hosting, business acquisition, software vendor, etc.
• Advise senior IT leadership (technical skills required, organizational structure).
• Build and sustain commitment to IT strategy by mentoring lead developers and advising IT management on best maintenance practices.
• Shape technical strategies by working with enterprise architecture group (Technology, Strategy and Architecture Group).
• In collaboration with enterprise architecture group, develop future state vision of a services-oriented architecture (SOA). Create and maintain evolutionary plans to move future state vision of SOA.
Experience / Qualifications Requirements
• 10 years+ experience in web development
• 5 years+ experience as development manager/ software architect working in large e-commerce, web projects (over £2 million, 2 years development efforts, 2 million hits per day).
• Experience in J2EE environment.
• Experience in OpenCMS would be an asset.

• Excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills
• Demonstrated expert knowledge of computer and web based technologies.• Results oriented and a willingness to get involved at a practical level when required
