COST OF LIVING IN SPAIN
The cost of living depends on where you live, and like in most other countries, it is more expensive to live in big cities like Seville, Madrid or Barcelona than it is in the countryside or smaller towns. Compared to the rest of Europe, tobacco, alcohol and fresh food such as meat, fish and vegetables are cheaper. However electrical commodities and clothes are a little more expensive. Local products are generally not as pricey as imported goods.
If you are planning on moving to Spain, here are some ideas how much it will cost: Calculate between 4 € and 9 € per square metre on accommodation size and per month on how much the rent will be. Water is usually included in the rent and electricity bills will be around 40 € per month. A telephone connection is going to be approximately 25 € per month plus the calls you make.
To go out and have a meal can be relatively inexpensive. With a price range between €7 and €10 you will get the set menu and a bottle of wine. If you want to go out for a coffee or a beer it is not going to be very expensive either (between €1 and €2 each).
All in all Spain has become a bit more expensive than it was before the Euro was established but it is still cheaper than most other countries in Europe.
